An animated vintage sewing machine

My Very Own Atelier is a small space for creative traditions and inspiration. Everyone needs a space to be free and enjoy the things one loves. If you find joy in traditional, handmade and homespun creations, then you may enjoy this space and find the inspiration here to be helpful to take and make your own.

Since I was a child, I was always into arts and crafts and finding inspiration for projects with natural and ordinary materials around me. Upcycling and reinventing the ordinary object into useful or decorative items is something that just really allows me to try out my ideas and be creative. Even if I don’t know exactly what something will be, I can always spot potential, which leads to cupboards and draws full of treasures waiting to happen.

These days, traditional home arts and crafts are too often being forgotten in the hustle of modern living, but many of us have our heritage rooted in domestic arts. Whether it be a grandparent or other relative who sewed, weaved or were crafty with natural materials or even just the remembrance of the the general type and styles of the textiles and household items of childhood, some of those things define our tastes and interests today. Although many things are readily available nowadays from mass production and distribution, there is a certain aspect that one cannot buy, namely the time, effort and joy one experiences and shares when one engages in a handcraft. And at the end of the day, one can leave a legacy to future generations that can really be inspirational to them in the future.

Living across the distance can make it difficult to stay in touch with relatives and friends, particularly on what one is doing on a day-to-day basis. And I’m not talking about boring stuff like work and responsibilities, but fun things like hobbies, personal projects and seasonal and holiday happenings. I started this blog to be able to track the progress of my projects, but have found it helpful to let the people in my life both near and far see what I have been “getting up to lately” and thought it might be interesting to other creatives out there. For me, there are many crafts that I learned from so many people (or was self-taught) throughout my life that bring me joy and that joy gets amplified when I can share them to inspire others. So come along with me and start or continue your traditions today!
